HOUSE G

Sited in the Foothill Woodlands of New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains this design paid homage to the region’s evolving architectural styles. The interior is punctuated with iconic architectural relics from the Southwest; a chaco canyon tee-shaped door opening, a pueblo stepped gateway and a postmodern fireplace with glass block surround. Each alluding to the evolving styles.

The plan of the house is angled to align with views of Ortiz and Sandia mountains and gather daylight and the warmth of the sun. A hall with south clerestory windows doubles as a gallery, within it a serpentine masonry wall provides thermal storage and display area. Other passive solar design features include combination direct gain windows with trombe walls, daylighting with clerestory windows and skylights.
